I realize that non-listening nodes may contribute nothing to the security or stability of the bitcoin network, but it may still be a curious metric as to the adoption rate or global interest of bitcoin in general. I see plenty of reports that will count the listening nodes by “walking” the bitcoin network. But I can’t find many sources for the number of non-listening nodes. Perhaps it is simply a number that can’t be counted.

I see some of the DNS seed nodes count new requests, and I assume they somehow age these out after a while, but is there any consensus as to how many nodes (listening or not) there are out there. I see Luke’s report (~80k), but no others.
