I have been thinking about upgrading my RX 6800 (non-XT). At the moment I am looking at RX 7800 XT and RTX 4070. I found new 7800XT and factory recertified 4070 for almost same price ~$530 (my 6800 is FR as well so I do not have an issue with that). I need a card for games and I usually play single player games and League of Legends from time to time at 1440p.

So I have a few questions and would like to hear your opinion or experience:

  1. Is it even worth upgrading my 6800 now? Answering this question might eliminate the next one :D I am asking this as I am afraid that next generation will be more expensive and I am not willing to spend more for a GPU, to be honest.
  2. Can anyone explain to me what is the point of DLSS and FG on Nvidia if AMD provides similar raw (maybe slighly worse but you play native) performance? Does DLSS, FG actually affects image quality?

At this point I don’t really care about RT, especially if decent FPS with RT can be achieved only by using DLSS+FG. And it looks like not that many games nowadays provide good RT anyway, only a few titles per year that I would want to play.

Maybe I am biased towards AMD at this point of time but I am also interested to hear people’s experience. Sorry for a long description :)
