I have recently been messing with some settings on my PS5 and I noticed something that my Internet provider AT&T couldn’t give me an answer for. I read a post that said the MTU value on the PS5 should be set to 1450 for a better stable ping at the cost of download speed. I tried both settings with a couple of games of R6.
With my MTU value set to 1500 I had a steady 19MS in the menu and a solid 32MS in game and I would quite frequently get the packet loss symbols in game. With my MTU set to 1450 I had a 14MS ping in the menu and 14ms to 21ms in game it fluctuates but the packet loss symbol never popped up once.
I was told that MTU shouldn’t be changed from its default value of 1500 but I can’t really see a downside of using the lower MTU. Is there something I missed along the way, I have a fiber modem from AT&T with 1gig up and down.
