So we are building a new apartment which will have some offices on the ground floor and apartments on other floors. This is our first apartment where we will be investing in tech, running Ethernet cables and installing security systems.
I am a self-hosting enthusiast and have dabbled in home networking. I have never thought about this from a business perspective or future proofing till now.
Few questions:
- How to setup cables through out the building for:
- Internet - I understand cable should be CAT6. But how should be run them? Should be just run each cable for a room to a central switch? and a single cable to main building networking box?
- Security System - Wired or wireless? I understand having it wireless would be simpler since the apartment will have its own wifi. Any security solutions? I am looking for something that is self-managed with very little dependency on the company. I know having someone maintain it is easy but this thing will be a new concept in the area and companies won’t have nonexistent support for this.
- Intercom - two types of systems: 1. Integrated with the door security smart lock system or 2. Just plain old mic, speaker buzzer system
This is a new domain for me. I don’t know the keywords to search for. Just directing me in the correct direction would be helpful.
