I am not technically adept (age 67) and get extreme anxiety when having technical problems so please bear with me while I try to explain my issue. Thankfully, I have a wonderful son who helps me with all the hard parts.

I back up my windows 10 pro every week with Macrium 8 and store the backups on a portable ssd (no problems here).

Yesterday my windows wouldn’t boot, giving me an 0xc000000f error and none of the standard solutions (restore point, etc) worked. In fact the system couldn’t find any C drive windows files. My 512 gb drive is working ok but somehow my windows changed the drive letter assignment from C to H. We tried booting into Macrium recovery but it didn’t work so we deleted and formatted the “new” C drive and reinstalled Windows 10 pro with no issues. Double checked for errors with no problems found.

We then installed Macrium 8 and did the disk image recovery (not the best explanation), which took a very long time, completed, rebooted and gave an error about no OS found. We surmised that perhaps the software problem that caused the original problem and crash was present on the disk image and that was the problem?

I have reformatted and reinstalled Win 10 pro and every thing is fine but my question is, how do I properly get say, an image (from a very backups prior) to and on my system? Is copying over the present copy of windows the correct way or is that why it didn’t work?

I really need someone to be patient and literally explain to me like I am a five year old.
