I’d like to get experience with machine learning in a multi-node, networked environment. To that end, I’d like to build a small fiber network in a home office environment.

First, I want to make sure I understand what would be required. If I understand correctly, a node would need a network interface, into which transducer modules would be inserted, which would connect to the fiber optic cable. Is that correct?

It makes me wonder about the feasibility of a point-to-point connection as this would eliminate the need for a switch as long as I only have two nodes.

It appears there are fairly cost effective 100 gigabit fiber interfaces and transceivers, so it may be the way I go.

Thanks for any thoughts.
