I’m struggling to understand why the f-stop scale isn’t incremental, like a percentage of full aperture. By increasing the aperture by 1 f-stop, isn’t the resulting doubling of light into the lens quite a significant jump? Would this result in a perceptible doubling of the image’s brightness? The f-stop scale doesn’t intuitively seem to offer much control over the amount of light entering the lens.
