Hey y’all, I could really use some help here as I think I am potentially being lied to by my mechanic.

I had my catalytic converter stolen off my vehicle like…2 years ago or something. I never got the O2 sensor replaced. I have to get it replaced now so I can get the check engine light to turn off. The mechanic I dropped the car off at just sent me a text saying that when they removed the old O2 sensor nothing was left of the cat inside, so now they have to replace the cat. I thought the O2 sensor was on the outside of the cat so I’m confused. I’m confused because I thought the O2 sensor wasn’t even there in the first place so how could they remove it? Please check the image I took a day or two before I dropped the car off. Is this making sense to y’all or is this bs?
