Hi, I took some portraits the other day and ended up with a couple of promising shots where the subject has the sun in her back and a very bright background.

Didnt bring a strong enough flash or a reflector. But shot RAW on a low ISO (nikon d750).

What are your recommendations to bringing up the brightness of the shadowy subject?

Been messing around with Nikon NX studio, but I dont like the results I am getting with active d lighting or highlight protection+increased exposure.

Any recommendations to editing technique? What software would you recommend? Would like to avoid lightroom. Preferably something cheap/free…
