Currently a surgery resident and workout 2-3 times per week, with ~45 minute workouts. My goal over the last year has been to lose weight to get to ~160 lbs but also to gain lean muscle. While I’ve lost a good bit of fat, I feel that I’ve struggled to put on muscle mass. What is a reasonable amount of time at which I should begin to see this change? For example, cephalic vein and abs more prominent.

I’m on my feet all day with my job and eat 2 meals typically. My lunches are rather sparse (maybe 300-600 calories). In total daily, I’ve been eating 2-3k calories per day with 150-250 g protein and minimal carbs. When I do eat carbs, they’re generally very healthy ones like carrots or infrequent starches. I even opted for the low carb breads and tortillas when I eat that sorta stuff.
