I have a brass bracelet I bought in a thrift store in Virginia almost 20 years ago. It’s kind of a cuff style, with 6 curved bars that wrap around (are welded in a loop around) two straight bars with bigger, round ends that look like balls so the bracelet bars won’t slide off.
There have been several instances where the balls on the ends of the straight bars have come unscrewed and the bracelet has come apart. I distinctly remember threading the welded loops around the straight bars and even tightening the tiny balls with needle nose pliers.
Anyway, I was at work the other day and I thought, ‘This bracelet hasn’t come apart in years. Possibly over a decade. I better make sure those balls aren’t loose.’ I go to check, and the balls don’t unscrew. It’s one solid piece of brass that’s shaped like a barbell. I put on my reading glasses to get a better look. One solid piece of brass for each bar. I even got out a magnifying glass to look more closely - to make sure the balls hadn’t just been fused to the bars over time and decades of wear - and it’s definitely one solid piece.
There is literally no way I’m thinking of another bracelet. It happened at least half a dozen times, and I’m not a big jewelry person. And it’s a unique piece that would be next to impossible to confuse with something else. What in the hell happened???
