SOLVED I forgot to uninstall my old drivers and it caused conflicts!
Context: I recently upgraded my GPU from a 1070 to an rtx 2070. Everything went fine but afterward I noticed a lot of problems that were likely present before I decided to look into them, or before the upgrade.
I noticed that my cpu gets quite hot, and I read that for a ryzen 7 5800x it is often normal to be at 90c on heavy loads, but I repasted and recleaned it anyway.
Then, I noticed that my fan cooler no longer changes speeds (it always stays at the first step of the curve no matter what the temp is). I have looked into my bios settings and set a curve that should be boosting the fan at a lower temp, but it didn’t change anything. Smart fan control is on and it is properly set to pwm. Four connectors. Hwinfo seems to have (relatively) accurate temps.
Then, I noticed that only sometimes when I reboot, especially from bios, that I won’t be able to do any sort of task that requires admin permissions at all. Hwinfo hangs. Can’t launch CMD as admin, but can launch it normally. Windows update also fails to check for updates in this state.
Then I noticed that my download speeds are a quarter of the speed they should be. I have not limited anything. Also, opening programs in general is slower.
For some reason user benchmark failed to test the SSD that my OS is installed on.
I also just installed a new 1tb nvme if it matters.
Does anyone have advice? I am worried my cpu is going bad. I am also suspicious something was corrupted in my os but I have no idea how that would happen. Maybe my ssd is failing?
