Hi there! I’m a total novice and at a bit of a fork in the road between learning to recrimp some CAT5E cables with RJ45 connectors and purchasing some equipment to adapt my set up for moca.

For some background: In my current set up, I have a coax to Modem -> Router -> Ethernet to 2x computers in a single room. However, I’d like to move one computer to a different room while also keeping the speed and reliability of a wired connection.

Each room has a coax that’s wired back to a splitter from a panel in a closet. Each room ALSO has a CAT5E wall plug in which the 5E connection leads to unlabeled / uncrimped cables in the same closet panel. I have no idea why the connector heads were removed, but I’d imagine the cabling still works? Side Note: There is a single CAT5E spliced into a CAT3 and going which I’m assuming is a phone line panel. Can this be ignored?

In your opinion, would it be worth attempting to re-crimp the CAT5E cables? If everything functions, I’d then relocate my modem / router into the closet to provide LAN connections to all the rooms. Or should I abandon the idea of getting these CAT5E cables working and purchase some moca adapters?
