I recently discovered Scythian tattoos (as in tattoos inspired by the ancient Scythian mummies), and I have some questions for y’all:
-
Is this like a genre of tattoo, or just a few one-offs that drew from the same idea?
-
If it is a genre, is there any greater cultural meaning to this style? Think like how Sak Yant tattoos aren’t just tattoos, they have religious meaning for many folks in SE Asia; or how prison tattoos can be symbolic & carry a lot of information, both inside and outside of prison.
-
I know that folks might have a wide range of stances on cultural misappropriation, but might someone getting these tattoos if they don’t belong to a certain group potentially be cultural misappropriation? Idk if any modern groups hold a lot of cultural meaning with these tattoos, or if the last time they held meaning to a group of people was the Iron Age.
