My wife decided it was a good idea to run both the dryer and the washing machine on maximum heat in the evening, “forgetting” that the water heater is preset to work for about 30 minutes.

30 minutes later — poof!

No electricity in the apartment, the UPS is beeping loudly, and she’s calling me from the bedroom while trying to put our 3yo to sleep.

The bonus? Because of the way the electricity is configured in this 65yo building, the external fuse tripped. I had to get dressed and go to another entrance of the apartment building to fix it.

Update: 30 minutes later, I find my wife fast asleep near a wide awake 3yo. It took me another hour to get her to fall asleep. Now I’m waiting for the water heater so I could take a shower.
