I have worked evenings and overnights for 12 years and people still expect me to be awake and out of bed by 5 or 6 and make rude comments about sleeping in until 8 and being antisocial and lazy. I’ve been awake for 48 hours to attend multiple family functions. Nobody ever says anything about going to bed at 9 or 10. Stuff isn’t open in the evenings and it gets dark early or of course you wouldn’t see me at 7am. Why are immediate family members and close friends expecting me to be functional before 8am. We can stop with the jerky comments and jokes. Healthcare workers don’t work normal 8-5 M-F jobs. You couldn’t do our hours. Tell me I’m a rockstar for being able to be awake and how appreciative you are I showed up because if I scheduled something for 11pm or 3am or called you at 2am, you would be mad. Don’t be mad if I text you at 4am. You should have had your phone on DND. I’m always trying to be quiet during my awake hours for others and nobody notices. People make all kinds of noises while I’m sleeping. Respect goes both ways.
