Hello,

Is it possible to get GPU acceleration to work on Debian 12 with my Thinkpad x220 (Intel HD Graphics 3000)?

I’m running Debian 12 on my Thinkpad x220. I’m trying to run the Zed editor, which uses Vulkan for rendering, and requires GPU acceleration to run properly. Following their docs, I run vkcube, and I can see that the selected GPU is ‘llvmpipe’. I’m wondering if it’s possible to get Debian to use the GPU, rather than a software emulation.

I’ve followed the instructions on the Debian wiki, and installed ‘xserver-xorg-core’, however there’s no change in the driver being used.

Any advice on how to get my laptop to use the correct driver would be appreciated!
