Hi folks, I need some advice. I’m a photographer based in San Francisco, i have a fairly popular instagram account which caters to photography and content creation both. That’s also where I get most of my business from. I’ve been doing professional shoots for a year now and mostly work with couples, though at this point since I want to gain as much experience as possible, I do take up stuff which I haven’t done before and charge a fair price for the same. I had a model approach me telling me she loved my work - I post a lot of urban landscapes, cultural events and street work on my instagram - she wanted to see if I could shoot some quick portraits for her on the beach. We agreed upon 45 mins $350 and I didn’t cap the number of images I would deliver but we spoke about roughly 20-30 photos. The shoot went very well, I informed her I will deliver the photos in a week, she paid me, all good. However ever since she has been literally harassing me to send her all the raw files so that she can get a retoucher to fix them, I explained to her that I will be sending her edited pictures which will be high res jpegs but I can’t send her the raws. She said okay, but she’s at it, she’s literally texting me on every platform and mailing me telling me that I should send her the raws via Dropbox, that she really needs them to have commercial images, and just basically disregarding anything I’m responding to her. I told her it’s unethical of your retoucher/photographer friend to demand raws off of me, she said okay, but now is insisting that I send her all images so that she can pick and choose, even though I told her I’ll send them in a week. My hunch is that she wants all the files from me whether they are Jpegs at this point to send to her friend who will edit them for her. My question is how to tackle this situation? One option is sticking to my stand and giving her the photos a week later as promised, but she is like it’ll reduce your work just send me all the photos like today itself. Second is to give her the raws and get done with it, but charge for them. What would be a fair charge if I were to choose the second option? And what is the best way to communicate with her if I choose the first option? Please let me know what you think or if you had a similar experience. Thank you 🙏
