Hi.
I built a gaming PC back in 2019 (with only a few modifications since), so it’s due an upgrade. My current setup is this:
- GPU: RTX 2080 SUPER ROG Strix
- CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X570-F Gaming AM4
- Power Supply: Corsair RM850x, 850W
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 32GB (2x16GB).
- Memory: Kingston KC3000 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD 1TB + Kingston A1000 480GB M.2 SSD
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
- Case: NZXT H7 Flow
The plan is to upgrade the top three of the aforementioned, to the following:
- GPU: RTX 5080
- CPU: Either a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D (depending on availability)
- Motherboard: B650
I was originally planning on just upgrading the GPU, but due to the obvious bottleneck from the older CPU that kinda gets the ball rolling on this whole thing. Will then need a new Mobo as well since I’m currently on an AM4. And I might go for a 4k OLED monitor as well looking at the above upgrades I’m planning - I’m currently on a 1440p.
I built this PC myself back in 2019 and did a bit of research then, but I have no experience in upgrading crucial components as I will be doing now. So my questions are a bit general.
PS: 90% of use case is gaming. No competitive games, single players games pretty much it.
- Is my 850W PSU enough? Is my ram sufficient? CPU cooler…? I’m hoping and kinda assuming the answer here is yes…?
- CPU; Any significant perfomance gap between the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D? Price difference is negligable, so it’s more a matter of availabilty. Might go for the former if it’s easier to get a hold of and perfomance in gaming is more or less the same.
- Anything else I should keep in mind during this upgrade process? Like reinstalling windows, will I need to do that? Like I said, first time upgrading crucial components, so I’m a bit unclear on things like this.
Any feedback is appreciated :)
