I’m currently on a certain VPN service for $15/month, but think it’s overkill for my needs.
My only purpose with a VPN is to access certain AI models not available in my country. These models are entirely browser-based, so currently, I just do split tunneling to only include Firefox for the VPN and use Chrome without the VPN turned on.
I literally only need it for this purpose, both on PC (Windows 10) and mobile (Android).
I am based in Israel and have a Gigabit connection, but in practice averaging 800-900Mbps download on speedtest.net. With my current VPN provider, I am connecting to a UK server, and get on average 600-700Mbps download, so almost my full speed.
I specifically need to be able to connect to UK servers with very high speeds (at least 30-40% of my regular connection) since the ping to the US is too high for me, and other countries in Europe are blocked from the AI services I need access to.
I don’t need streaming, port forwarding, or using the VPN anywhere else than a web browser app, both on my Windows PC and my Android smartphone.
I do need split tunneling so that the VPN only covers Firefox browser and nothing else on my PC and smartphone.
Will Mullvad cover that just as well for 5 pounds a month?
