Hi all,

I have limited NAS / backup experience so looking for some advice.

My household has two desktops and two laptops that I want to back up to a NAS. Ideally, they will be full computer backups that can be used for file / folder and bare metal restores. Added bonus if smartphone backups are possible through an app on the phone.

I want to set the initial backups to the NAS, then have the NAS backing up to a cloud storage.

I have a repurposed Datto Alto 3 running TrueNAS core (has not been configured yet, other than the boot drive and a storage pool on a second drive). I’m assuming I’ll have to run some backup agent on each device that will backup to the NAS, then configure the NAS to backup to a cloud provider?

Any suggestions are appreciated. I would prefer a free / low cost / one time payment for the backup agent since I’ll be paying for the cloud storage. I’m also open to changing the NAS OS if there is a better solution.

I’ve tried Backblaze (standard, not b2) but I’d rather not deal with extremely long restore times for “unlimited” storage

Thanks in advance!
