Hi!

I’m currently using my old desktop gaming PC as my main home server. Right now I’m running TrueNas with the usual suspects (*arr stack, Plex, Immich, Paperless, Navidrome…) running with docker through Dockge.

I want to replace this with something more modern and efficient. The thing is, this beast is using almost 3kWh/day and it’s pulling around 200W while transcoding for Plex with the GPU, which seems super inefficient. Also it barely fits im my tiny “network closet”. Specs are as follows:

  • Asus Z170-A
  • i5-6600K
  • 1080ti founders (mainly only used for plex transcoding…)
  • 6 HDDs for pool storage.
  • 1 2.5" SSD for TrueNas

I’m mostly looking to match this performance with a bit of future-proofing, as economically as possible of course.

Got any good suggestions? I’ve been looking at something like the small ThinkCentres but I’m lost as to how I’d know what the difference in performance is.

Thanks in advance!
