I have an old PC i want to turn into a home server. This developed out of Jellyfin and wanting to host a Game server for my kids. As well as have a network storage for stuff the family needs on multiple computers. I have Nord VPN and would tunnel to there for a static IP. I can change that if there is a better option. It was the easy option for the family.

I am not an IT person. So the Acronyms have melted my brain. A lot of Youtube has only showed me how little i know.

Most Youtubers run Proxmox with a TrueNAS Scale VM. Is this necessary for my use case> can i just run TrueNas Scale?

I see Docker as a necessity. Is it a container? Does it run containers? As far as i can tell its an App store for server apps.

What are the bare minimum stuff i need to get off of docker? and some hearty recommendations?

I-6500, gtx720, 32 gig Ram, 2x 12TB HHD, 1 500gb ssd.

How should i configure my Pool? I want to expand it as necessary.

This is probably my first step into this very deep pool, so recommendations are really appreciated.
