We have an old car that we do our best to maintain. Recently, we discovered an issue with the steering that made driving hazardous so we took it to a mechanic to get the alignment checked. The mechanic took one look at our car (literally in and out in under 10 minutes) and gave us an estimated bill of $3500. According to him, these parts always need to be replaced on vehicles of our car’s age.

We decided to get a second opinion and lo and behold, the actual culprit was a bad sensor that will cost about $100 to replace. We likely will need to get the other stuff replaced sooner rather than later. But even if the first place had done all their repairs, the steering would have still been messed up because of the failed sensor.
