Hey everyone, 18M here, just graduated high school, and I’ve been traveling a lot recently. I don’t usually stay in hostels or dangerous places—I tend to go for more upscale places. It’s been great for the MOST part, but I’ve had a few really really really unsettling experiences so far. I don’t know if this kind of thing is normal or how to handle it.
One example: at one hotel, the room service guy kept calling me “handsome.” Not just once, but three separate times, and the way he said it felt so weird and off. It was enough to make me uncomfortable.
But the worst happened about a week ago in Monaco. I was having dinner with a friend, and after they left, I decided to stay at the restaurant a bit longer. Out of nowhere, this older guy and his wife come up to me. This grown ass deeddaw proceeds to touch me on the shoulder and started complimenting my hair color and saying how “firm and muscular” my shoulders looked. I completely froze.
they proceed to talk about how bad the wine at the restauraunt is and they invited me up to their hotel room to “try wine.” I didn’t even say anything, just paid my bill and left. I was so freaked out that I told the front desk about them, but the hotel didn’t do anything. I ended up avoiding my room for two hours because I was scared they might try to find out where I was staying.
Both of these incidents happened weeks ago.
Has anyone else dealt with this kind of thing while traveling? Is it normal, or am I just being overly sensitive? How do you handle situations like this??
