I don’t know where else to turn for this, so hopefully this is the right place to ask.
I had a modem/router combo from my ISP Optimum. It worked just fine and everything was well. And then my kid spilled some drink in it and it stopped working. So we decided to get something a little better since we use a lot of devices in our home, but we didn’t want to break the bank so i got a refurbished Netgear CAX30 and this thing has been nothing but trouble.
I have a Playstation Portal, which used to work with my old router and now it stutters and disconnects constantly. My kid’s TV and PS5 internet also suffers constant disconnects, and they’re just a single room away. Meanwhile, my other kids have 0 issues in the opposite room and equal distance away.
All wi-fi connections in my room, where the router is, are fine. And even my Portal when connecting to cloud streaming, and not having to connect to the Playstation, are fine.
I had noticed in the settings than my cable connection status was poor. After some research someone suggested adding an attenuator, which I did. At first my Portal and my son’s internet were working again, but that success was short lived.
A speed test shows I have 525mb down and 38mb up, which is also worse, as it used to hit around 750 on our 1gb speed.
I don’t want to have to buy anything else if there’s something I’m missing with this thing, but at this point I may have to. I just don’t want to end up getting something even worse, or anything that’s going to be trouble to set up.
And advice on what my problem may be would be much appreciated, or at least a suggestion of what i can buy, without breaking the bank, to get everyone’s connections sorted, would be super helpful
