I bought a new Dell G15 with Ubuntu. I’m coming from Pop!OS.

For the second time now I am having this problem:

I try to boot with SATA on RAID on (factory settings)

And it spams the error:

“mdadm: No devices listed in conf file were found.”

Followed by:

“Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems:

  • Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
  • Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
  • Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; Is /dev) ALERT! UUID=[huge numbers and letters] does not exist. Dropping to a shell!”

I did some research and found instructions to change SATA to AHCI/NVMe.

But when I do, the system gets very slow and seems to have some funcions missing e.g. I can even look for WiFi and the laptop doesn’t charge.

The first time this happened, two days ago when it arrived, I solved this problem by setting the laptop to factory settings, with a fresh install of the OS.

But now I have already downloaded games and set the system to my liking. I don’t want to reset the laptop again and want to prevent this from happening again.

I’m not very tech-savvy, never had this problem before, ever.

Is it an OS problem? Is it Hardware problem? Should I request Dell assistance? Can I fix this in my own without losing my files?

I truly appreciate any help I can get.
