We are planning to be in Malaysia from mid March to end of April. Context - we have been traveling for 6 months so longer stays in places / not moving around too much is important to us.

  • 2 weeks in Penang (longer than usual as we need to pick one spot where we can take care of logistics for the next leg of our trip, relax a bit more etc. Picked Penang over KL as it seems more interesting and food looks amazing)

  • 1 week in KL

  • 3-4 days in Malaca (thoughts on whether this is worth it? Could also do a day trip from KL but looks like it would be a long day trip)

  • 10 days in Sabah - 1 week in Sepilok / Sandakan + 3 day boat cruise in Kinabatangan

  • 3-4 days in Kuching - is this worth it? Since we’re already doing Sepilok and Kinabatangan, how different will the wild life and scenery be?

Other places we considered and decided against - Langkawi , Perhentian island, and Kota Kinabulu - we’re doing beaches / islands in Thailand and Indonesia so thinking we can skip these. Saw pretty mixed stuff on Cameron highlands so decided against it too.

Thank you for your input!
