I’m planning to build a new pc. Since I really need a new one I don’t want to wait too long.
My current plan is to use a 4080 super. But I heard the rumors ( https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2024/11/29/nvidia-rtx-5000-series-graphics-cards-arriving-early-january/ ) that Nvidia is planning to release the 5000 series in January. I’m concerned if I buy now that I either pay way too much for the card compared to something like February or to buy an outdated card when I can get a similar priced card with way more power by waiting 2 more months. On the other hand I heard that after a new card release it takes months until the old cards really start to fall in price.
My usecases will probably be:
-
gaming (i.e. Cyberpunk 2077)
-
Video editing (Dacinci Resolve)
-
Blender
-
Running LLMs locally (mistral, llama)
-
want to try out AI training (tensor flow, pytorch)
I’d like to get some opinions on buying now or waiting for the 5000 series release.
