Complete newbie here, been using Ubuntu for a month now and this is my experience so far.
I have used Windows for 12 years in my life and I was getting frustrated for my PC just not opening any programs (not even Firefox) when it booted up.
I’ve been hearing about Linux for years and I recently got deep into it and I wanted to try it out.
I got the ISO file, Made a new partition, And installed Ubuntu on the new partition and right after I booted up, it felt like I just bought my whole PC.
Though there was a learning curve. I never touched Linux terminal. And surprised lots of stuff was made in terminal and I said why not. I got deep into the Linux terminal, did stuff, tinkered stuff, fixed stuff.
And I basically wanted to switch!
I moved all my items from Windows to Ubuntu and after a week of use, I updated my system via terminal, which didn’t go well…
Ubuntu booted up into a tty (I assume?) with lines saying green OKs and and red FAILs. It was stuck. I didn’t knew what to do I searched the web I asked ChatGPT. ChatGPT said reinstall a gnome core thingy I don’t remember it’s name. But after running that, It got back to normal. But it basically reverted back a version
Though I was still scared of vulnerabilities etc. so I tried updating again, and same thing…
After a week or so, I was bored. and moved everything back to Windows hopelessly.
But I started to think it may be something that I did without knowing. So I installed Ubuntu again, and became more careful and think before I do something to my system.
And thus I encountered no problems now!
I got deep into customization, themes, icon packs, extensions, grub themes, display manager and more. I made Ubuntu feel like a real Personal Computer. And thus, I fully made a switch.
So this is my Linux experience so far. I am really looking forward to go deep into more Linux distros.
If I made a mistake while writing this, PLEASE BE KIND.
