1) Are you OK with direct message offers from vendors?
NO
2) What are your main reasons for wanting a seedbox?
dl torrents and keeping ratios up
3) Are you okay with sharing hardware resources with other users [shared] or do you need the seedbox hardware dedicated to just you [dedicated]?
I’ve never had a shared one, I don’t think it’d be a problem, but I also don’t want someone else to be able to mess with my downloads, delete my stuff, etc.
4) Do you want someone else to be responsible for maintaining the seedbox software (operating system, applications) [managed] or do you want to do it all yourself [unmanaged]?
Managed would be better, I’m not heavily tech savvy
5) Please describe your seedbox experience. (You may wish to list any seedbox providers you’ve been with before.)
So, I have used rapidseedbox, and I liked them just fine, but from some posts I’ve seen, I’m starting to get concerned with safety? Like, I heard they adhered to a dmca notice, and that makes me a bit nervous to hear. I’ve also had some people tell me that they retain my info, and that their servers are in France, so they are not as safe as other providers. (I’m really not trying to disparage them, they’ve been good to me, but it’s hard to ignore stuff you see around the net sometimes…)
6) Please describe your experience with Linux. (Most seedboxes run Linux and some knowledge of it may be helpful.)
None, absolutely none.
7) What is the high end of your budget? (Please give a specific amount and a currency. “Cheap” might mean something different to one person than it does to another.)
I’m used to $150 USD a year, but I’ll go higher if it’s private and secure enough.
8) Do you have preferences or requirements concerning payment? (Paypal, Bitcoin, etc.)
I’m not great with payment methods, but I have started paying for some things with bitcoin.
9) Do you plan to use public trackers?
I’ve finally gotten into a private tracker, but I would love the option.
10) What kind of connection speed do you need? (Common answers would be 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 2Gbps, 10Gbps.)
1 gbps
11) How much combined upload and download traffic do you expect each month? Include download of files from the seedbox to your local computer. If you don’t know, tell us what upload amount per month would realistically make you very happy with your seedbox.
100 gbs? Maybe? I’m not streaming, so it kind of comes and goes. I can go a month or so without downloading or just having that same 100 seeding for ratio.
12) What is the minimum disk space you need?
I would like a tb to play with so if I can use public trackers; I have the stuff I leave for seeding ratios and then the stuff I can remove quicker because it doesn’t have a time/ratio limit set by the site.
13) Do you require a specific type of mass storage? (HDD, SSD, NVMe SSD) If other than HDD, please explain why you think you need this.
Nope
14) Do you require a specific torrent client?
Nope
15) Do you require any other applications on the seedbox? (e.g. Plex, Subsonic, Radarr)
Just a secure way to transfer my files off, like a filezilla or something like that. I know my isp doesn’t care, but I also don’t want my isp to even know they should care about me.
16) Do you require SSH access to the command line?
Nope, unless they have a ratio cap and I need the SSH to access it to change it.
17) Do you require access to a remote desktop?
No
18) Do you require admin level (i.e. ‘root’) access? If yes, please explain why.
No
19) Do you have any other specific requirements?
Privacy and security are my big things. Not being heavily tech savvy, I want the provider to be the kind that protects me from copyright stuff, court stuff, etc. Like, I didn’t know how to properly set a kill switch on a vpn one time, or to bind it to my client, and I got a warning because my connection dropped. I’m very concerned about controlling those types of variables so that I don’t accidentally get exposed by doing something stuff that I didn’t know about. So I’m hoping there’s a provider that’s secure and kind of lays out - do this do that and the other and you’re good to go.
20) Is there any other information you think might help in getting a useful recommendation?
I’m paranoid about privacy. If you couldn’t tell from my answers. I do plan to keep using my vpn and sftp file transfers with the seedbox.
