Since I have a couple of old analog HI8 cameras (Sony TRV68 and Sony TR66) I volunteered to digitize our old home movies, but none of my computers have analog AV ports so my brother bought me these things:

He’s unwilling to buy a Digital 8 cam that can also play analog tapes, and I can’t afford one myself. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to make these products work with any of my computers/software. When I was digitizing our old MiniDV tapes, I just used an old copy of iMovie on my 2004 Mac G4 because that camera had a firewire cable and it was able to see/capture from it extremely easily.

With this setup, neither iMovie nor Final Cut 7 can see the input. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running Premiere CS6 but that’s useless for this too. Also, because the USB plug is too wide to plug in both it and a hard drive dock at the same time side-by-side, the only computer I can even plug it into is my 2015 MacBook Air, which is running Monterey OS.

Some commenters on previous threads here have said to use OBS while others say not to (and I can’t find good step-by-step instructions anyway). Some say a Blackmagic app that doesn’t exist anymore, and some suggest various Windows software that doesn’t run on Mac.

So, I’m stuck. What software should I use given the hardware I have available?
