I’ve been running an external bay of SATA drives via a SFF8088 cable and a LSI SAS 9207-8e controller for years. I started with 4TB drives in 2018. Over the years, I’ve been swapping drives out for larger and larger ones.

I just ordered and received a 20TB drive and put it into the empty bay. It didn’t come up. It turns out that I hit the 18TB limit on the LSI SAS 9207-8e controller.

Which controller is similar to the basic LSI SAS 9207-8e I controller I have, but supports 20TB drives? Do the newer Broadcom 9400-8E controllers support > 18TB drives?
