I’m absolutely terrible when it comes to picking out hardware that is compatible with everything else, so I’d really like some help!
I currently have a Jellyfin server on an old laptop, but I want to buy a desktop to set up an actual server to host all of my movies, shows, audiobooks, music, and to back up my household’s phones.
My budget is $1400 USD, and I’d probably be looking to have about 32 TB or more of storage, just so I don’t have to worry about running out of space. I’d probably need a graphics card for video encoding, and a decent amount of ram since I’ll be using a couple of docker containers. I’d also want to have it in a mini to mid sized tower. I’d want to just buy everything new and not deal with the hassle of buying used on eBay, because I’d worry that I’d get the wrong parts or something.
My plan is to selfhost my website with a domain that points to my public IP address via cloudflare, then use nginx for a reverse proxy. I’m pretty new to this, so hopefully that all makes sense.
Any help or advice you could give me would be amazing!
