Don’t make my mistake. Back your shit up.

I’ve spent a lot of my time over the last year+ creating an organised repository of books, trying my best to cover every category I can think of in both fiction and non fiction. I truly considered it a curated masterpiece collection of human knowledge and literary genius that would be fit to serve both as my lifetime supply of reading, but also in rebuilding after the inevitable collapse of global technological civilisation.

This morning I tried to upload just a few GBs of it to my cloud. My phone didn’t like this and took matters into it’s own hands, and now my entire book folder is gone and there’s a 200gb hole in my storage… and my soul.

The initial shock felt like my insides were just removed. I’m mostly over it now, because this is something i can deal with in a mature and responsible manner. I’m hoisting sails and plundering booty, swiping the loot, looting the horde, raiding the goods, pilfering the prize and snatching the stash. If it’s not nailed down, it’s mine, and if it is nailed down, I’ll take the nails too

I’m thinking of looking into software to automate the work of downloading books and organising them, but for now I’m probably gonna start with just downloading in bulk on my PC, which so far hasn’t betrayed me like my phone.

Edit to add: My phone has 500gb storage, and the point of uploading it to the cloud was to transfer to a PC and drives, not long-term storage to rely on. Obviously.
