Hello fellow selfhosters, please advice.
I have a small PC with Core I5-4300Y/4Gb RAM/256Gb SSD/onboard intel HD video with HDMI output/WiFi+BT/NIC 1Gbit/6 USB ports. This one is good for homeserver because it is fanless and has a low power consumption (about 50W power source only). And I can upgrade RAM/SSD if necessary.
I have a good experience with Xpenology, not really good with bare Linux CLI and more inclined to friendly user interfaces (like CasaOS) but anyway I can use some tricks with command line if needed.
For this tiny host I am looking for selfhosted OS solution.
I want to use it like a NAS (SMB + Syncthing etc) + Docker containers for some experiments + use it’s HDMI for streaming video contents right into TV including sound.
To achieve my goals I installed Proxmox, made VM for Xpenology and VM for BlissOS. Why BlissOS – it is an Android for x86 platform, and it is able to show me streaming videos which I need (apps like LazyMediaDeluxe etc). But when I made a test, I realized there’s no sound via HDMI. Also, because of this configuration, my “server” was hot as hell. So my question is – maybe you can suggest better solution which i haven’t noticed? (please no Plex or *arrs) Maybe not actually OS, but a Docker container or something like that.
Thanks in advance!
