Disclaimer: This is my opinion. Yes, I understand we can make any GNU/Linux system as we like it to be. It is not catered towards experienced or config/terminal friendly users. It is in support of users coming from closed source OS wanting a full fledged Free desktop experience without the mental overhead of maintaining your desktop. This list does not include Lightweight derivatives or specialized distributions. Only Full Desktops who can go toe to toe with Windows and Mac OS in terms of Software Integration and Community Support are included.

Linux Mint - Beginner friendly, old Windows feel, System backup integrated by default. (Is now the most recommended distro instead of Ubuntu)

Zorin OS - Beginner friendly, WINE integrated by default, Looks polished. (Pro is worth paying to help devs out, otherwise Core is fine as free)

Elementary OS - Polished Distro, Mac OS feel. (Although it hasn’t been updated in a while, I can only see one dev working on it)

Kubuntu - KDE fans, full fledged QT and maximal experience. (Idk why but I feel like scientists might like this.)

Pop! OS - Unique, Gamer Friendly, Highly Integrated. (Cosmic may or may not bring the year of linux desktop)

My personal choice out of these in current time is Zorin OS, because it is very well rounded and will run on most hardware and with windows software support out of the box. (Otherwise a debodhi linux user)
