I recently built my first PC with a ryzen 7700 that I got a cracking deal on. I’ve undervolted/slightly overclocked it for a 7% performance boost over base. Held off on buying the GPU initially as I wasn’t certain what to pair it with.

I could get a used 4080 or 4080 super presently for around £750-£780, or I could wait for the 5080, which I’m assuming will be priced around the £1000 mark and have roughly 4090 level performance.

I’m hoping to be able to get 120-160fps @ 1440p with maxed settings. Don’t mind using DLSS quality mode. Ideally I want this PC to last me until halfway through next console gen, so 7 years or 2032 maybe (understanding that I’ll have to start dropping settings a bit down the line). Haven’t used ray tracing before but I’m open to advice/opinions regarding it.

My question is would it be worth buying a 5080 or will it be bottlenecked by my CPU? Same for the 4080 even? Will a used 4080 stay alive for another 7/8 years? I don’t intend to upgrade my CPU or switch to 4k until that time.
