this is getting more and more common and it’s such a pet peeve of mine.
“whenever” is NOT for a singular specific event (generally speaking). if you are referencing how you went to the store that day, you would not say “whenever I went to the store.” if you’re talking about something that happened during meeting you had, you would not say “whenever I was in the meeting, x said this” - those would be “when.”
