Hey all! So, I’ve been running my current server for about a year now with the same CPUs it shipped with. Currently, there’s two e5-2690v4s in there which is complete overkill for both what I’m using it for, and my electric bill. The CPU usage has never gone above 5%. For the time being, I set my proxmox cpu power setting to be on demand which should help.
Currently, I’m running 6 VMs. One is truenas and the rest are docker containers installed on debian.
VM 1 “TrueNas” | TrueNas |
---|---|
VM 2 “Network Services” | AdGuardHome and Homearr |
VM 3 “Media Automation” | Flaresolverr, Jellyseerr, Prowlarr, Radarr, Sonarr, Sonarr(Anime) |
VM 4 “Syncthing” | Syncthing |
VM 5 “REDACTED FOR RULE 5” | qBittorrent-nox |
VM 6 “Jellyfin” | Jellyfin |
So far, I’ve done some digging but I must admit that enterprise hardware is a bit of a blindspot for me. I’m guessing that I should be fine with any e5v4, but I was specifically looking at the lowest TDP options to keep it as cool as possible. So far, I’m in-between E5-2650L v4, E5-4628L v4, and E5-2648L v4. My thinking is that they should all be around the same in terms of performance, so would I be right in buying the cheapest one of the three or am I missing something crucial?
