I’ve watched videos by Linus, Hardware Haven, and TwoGuyzTech, and despite feeling like a tech savvy person my whole life, I feel oddly lost.

Things I understand:

  • I can get a NAS/DAS case that is itself a computer, and is where everything is stored.
  • I have to get a blu-ray writer and flash it (don’t know that but will find an MakeMKV tutorial). I’ve seen the advised list on MakeMKV and will get one of those.
  • I need to use an app such as Jellyfin or Plex (based on what I’ve seen I’ll probably use Jellyfin).

What I don’t understand is getting my ripped media to the NAS/DAS and then getting it to my tv screen. The Terramaster F2-212, for example, only has ports for power, ethernet, and 2 USB slots. Am I supposed to rip something to my laptop, then put it on an external drive, then plug that drive into the NAS and transfer the media? Seems like a roundabout process but also seems faster than trying to transfer stuff wirelessly.

There’s also no HDMI or video outputs, so after getting media on the NAS how do I get it to my tv? I despise smart tvs and use my Playstation for media.

Additionally all the tutorials just gloss over tons of jargon like it’s nothing. From one video I believe they briefly mentioned how I would need to adjust the output of the blu-ray writer depending on which service/app I’m going to be using? Something like that. And extremely quickly went over how to access the bonus features?

Any way, if you can point me in the direction of something that is literally step-by-step I would appreciate it, as jumping around between multiple videos and reddit/other forum posts is exhausting. Thanks!
