I just got a gigabit internet plan and received a Wifi 6 router from my ISP. Unfortunately the router is in a closet near one end of the house, so my wireless signal is pretty weak on the other side of the house. The cable from the ONT to the router is ran in such a way that it’s not feasible to try and move the main router to a more central location.
Right now I am using an old Archer C7 running DD-WRT as a repeater on the far end of the house. This provides wired access to a few devices and a 2.4G access point for some IOT devices, and it has a wired connection to the main router through an in-wall ethernet port. I tried using the 5G radio on the C7 as well, but since it’s an older router the speeds are suboptimal - even when I’m close to the C7 my download speeds are far under the speeds I get when connecting to the main router from that location.
I’m looking for a (hopefully not too expensive) Wifi 6 router to replace the C7. Something with at least 3 ethernet ports and 802.11ac compatibility should suffice, as long as I can configure it as a repeater. All the devices that would use the 5G band on this end of the house support Wifi 6, so it’d be a useful upgrade.
Any recs appreciated - thanks.
