Why I’m building: I’ll be having an extended stay at my dad’s house. I don’t want to bring my primary rig up there. I’d prefer not to take any risks in damaging it. I’ve decided to throw together a secondary rig that I can use for my stay. It just so happens that my dad is going to put together a new at home office at his house. He doesn’t have a desktop PC. So I plan on building this rig for school/gaming use while I’m there and then gifting it to my dad for his new office once I leave.
The 5700x3D offers tremendous value right now. You can get it for like $135 on Ali Express. It’s a solid gaming CPU, but the 3D vCache CPUs take a hit in “workstation” tasks. That being said, I feel like the work he does doesn’t require a whole lot of processing power overall. It’ll be mostly web browsing, email, video calls, and Microsoft’s Office suite.
So, to anyone that uses a 5700x3D…how does it perform in day to day tasks? Does it feel “snappy” when doing basic tasks like web browsing and excel spreadsheets? It’ll be paired with a good NVME ssd, so that won’t that shouldn’t be a limiting factor here.
Worst case, I can sell the MOBO, RAM, CPU, and GPU before gifting and replace it with something like a 9700x. Just hoping I don’t have to deal with any of that.
