When I was a solo traveller in my 20s it was easy to make friends. You would stay at a Hostel and literally just talk to anyone at a table and within minutes you’re all off to go do the same thing and party later on that night.
Now that I’m older, Hostels arent something I can do, as I value sleep more and drinking much less. Plus I have about 10 years on these kids so it gets a little weird at a certain point.
So far I have tried making friends on a free walking tour, which is hit or miss, and tried cooking classes which while incredibly fun, seem to be filled with couples, mostly in their 50s & 60s.
Going to bars is also hit or miss, as most bars in Europe dont seem to have an actual bar with barstools where you can sit and make friends. Tables with people who come with groups seems to be much more common.
What’s been your way of meeting other solo travelers or otherwise making friends while traveling in your 30s?
