My wife and I are travelling for 6.5 months next year and would appreciate some feedback on our itinerary for India. This is the first country we’ll be visiting and we’ve allocated 4 weeks to it, starting in early January.
This is our current plan. What are we missing? Do we have too much time in a particular location?
Day | Location | Notes |
---|---|---|
| Delhi | Arrive early morning |
| Delhi | |
| Delhi | |
| Delhi/Jaisalmer | Flight to Jaisalmer (1.5 hours) |
| Jaisalmer | |
| Jaisalmer | |
| Jaisalmer | |
| Jaisalmer/Jodhpur | Train to Jodhpur (5-6 hours) |
| Jodhpur | |
| Jodhpur | |
| Jodhpur | |
| Jodhpur | |
| Jodhpur/Jaipur | Flight to Jaipur (1 hour) |
| Jaipur | |
| Jaipur | Day trip to Pushkar |
| Jaipur | |
| Jaipur | |
| Jaipur/Agra | Train to Agra (5 hours) |
| Agra | |
| Agra | |
| Agra/Lucknow | Flight to Lucknow (1 hour) |
| Lucknow | |
| Lucknow | |
| Lucknow | |
| Lucknow/Varanasi | Flight to Varanasi (1 hour) |
| Varanasi | |
| Varanasi | |
| Varanasi/Delhi | Flight to Delhi (1 hour) for onward travel |
We are quite conscious of not burning out on this trip, especially as we’ll still have 5 months travel ahead of us! We originally included Udaipur as a stop between Jodhpur and Jaipur but it meant moving to a new place every 3 days. By removing Udaipur, we are able to take a flight between Jodhpur and Jaipur instead of a 5-6 hour train between Jodhpur and Udaipur, then the same from Udaipur to Jaipur. The itinerary feels much more manageable.
Would really appreciate your thoughts 🙏
Edit: we visited Mumbai, Goa, and Kerala on a previous trip.
