Right now I have an HP Z240 with:
- i7-6700 CPU
- 32GB RAM
- 125GB SSD
- 16TB HDD
In this I currently host Proxmox with various containers, and I’m planning to move to K8s setup (probably following onedr0p’s template).
This is a diagram of what I intend on doing as a home setup.
This one contains the k8s namespaces and services I can think of right now (will probably increase)
Questions I have:
- Planning to use Pi-hole/AdGuard Home/Technitium (open to suggestions to which one to use). Where would it be best to put it? Is it alright as a K8s deployment? Otherwise I’d get a RaspPi, should it be in a VLAN or in between the router and the switch? Where should it be put?
- I plan on buying 3 USFF as Talos nodes. Currently eyeing a HP EliteDesk 800 G5 with 8thGen i5, 16GB RAM (do I need 32?) and 128GB of SSD. Planning on getting one to start and eventually end up with 3.
- I would probably need another SSD in each node for rook-ceph, right?
- Could I use my current Z240 as a NAS/DAS? If so:
- What’s a good software for that?
- Would I then need Nextcloud?
- VPN Server is usually used on Firewall, right? So Wireguard on VyOS?
More importantly: right now I own the Z240 and a managed switch (which I haven’t set up yet). What would be the best point to start? I was thinking 1 K8s node and maybe a router, but I can probably virtualize the K8s cluster within Proxmox if it’s best to wait until I can afford 3.
Any suggestions or ideas that come to mind are more than welcome! Thanks!
