I am looking for a self hosted solution to keep track of what I charge my clients and how much they owe me.

I already have an external invoicing system, so my main requirement is the tracking of charges and payments. I have tested some invoicing software (like InvoiceNinja and Dolibarr) but I don’t like that they are so Invoice centered.

My main complaint is around the payments. I have to go to a specific invoice and change it to “Payed”. If the client payed for 2-3 invoices I have to manual go and select each one and set it to payed. Even worse when they pay an amount that it doesn’t corresponds to the exact amount of the invoices, some times they underpay and some times (rarely) they overpay for next invoices.

For all these I have to manually go and select the invoices that I want to have as payed/or calculate the amount left for the invoice.

Spreadsheets is the easy solution, to track a very small number of clients. When you get to tenths or hundreds it is really complicated to keep track of all the files and easily check the balances.

Do you have something to suggest that would be easier to keep track of client balances by adding “Charges” and “Payments” instead of specific invoices?
