Garden State (2004) was my favourite film for many years. It’s a film about going through your twenties and into your thirties. It’s about waiting for something but finding things you weren’t looking for, it’s about awakenings and change. It also has a killer soundtrack.

I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite film anymore (I’d struggle to name a single favourite now days). I’ve read some thoughts online from people who loved Garden State two decades ago but who now question their opinion. I can’t really relate to that exactly, I still like it myself but now in a more nostalgic way.

Maybe films have changed or maybe I have but twenty years later no film has resonated with me yet in the same way for being midlife.

Please share your recommendations if you have any. What was your Garden State? Do you still feel the same way about it now?
