So, I have an ancient Netgear Readynas NV+. It’s a beast, 4 x 2TB; 5.5TB usable. But it’s too old, and too slow, to keep in production. I also have various desktops and laptops, 16TB of data minimum I’m looking to backup. I don’t really have a budget yet. If it’s more than I can afford I’ll do it piecemeal. I’m thinking maybe a xigmanas PC with a 16TB drive on my network, and an external 16TB for offline / off-site backup? But while that would service every one of my computer setups, how do I grow it going forward? How do I setup cold storage or encryption? I kind of want to balance performance, convenience, expandability, and price… But that sounds a bit like having my cake and eating it too.
So yeah, any setups that people have had a lot of good OR bad luck with, I’d love to hear your story. Nothing in the 100TB+ range though, I’m not looking to build anything that massive. Thanks for your time.
