This is the second incident of me getting lost in elevator buttons and levels. This happened the first day I moved in a very progressive country, way different from where I came from. It would be around over ten years before the first elevator glitch I have experienced. My friend fetched me from the airport and we’re going back to the house. The house is a hotel/apartment, this means there are some units that they rent for more than three months but not over a year. She has been there for three months and we are to stay for another three. It’s very modern and with very few security since there are CCTV cameras everywhere and the tenants use a card to tap open lobby and room doors. If I remember correctly it has 36 levels and we need to go up to the 21st floor. At the lobby you have four units of elevator working and as I stayed there for the next few months I have realized it’s seldom you’d be running across other people unless you live at the same floor. So dragging my luggage my friend helped me inside the hotel and to the elevator and as she pressed 21 it light up and since the hotelis rather new, the elevator barely make sounds when going up or down. You could say based on my first story and here that I like watching the lights go up as the lift takes us to our floor. The number 21 opened and the machine stopped and rocked a little and the door opened, we turned right and go all the way at the end of the hall where the room was. My friend took out the card and tap for the room to open but it keeps on being rejected. Her housemate was inside and so we started knocking and a lady around our age opened the door. I watched my friends face got shocked and confused and then the lady ask what do we need. My friend finally said, she lives in that unit but the lady just smiled and said she’s the one who lives there. So my friend confirmed the room number and the lady smiled and said we got lost because that’s the 31st floor. We said we’re sorry for bothering them and for the confusion and walked our way back to the lift. She kept on pressing 21 while asking me if she made a mistake but I knew she didn’t as I watched everything carefully. You see it was my first day in a foreign country so I was carefully keeping an eye on how things work there. We made it to the unit and never had any problem again with the lift as we stayed therefor another 4mons before we transferred to the same hotel but different tower. To add, since the city are mostly high rise buildings and residences, elevator maintenance and government checking and regulations are strict and religiously followed, I’m convinced it’s very unlikely that it was a technical problem because no repairs were done in the following days .
